I'm not sure about the chemicals... but you need lots of equipment to develop photos. An enlarger, which is the biggest thing. Timer, red light, a light proof room... and the tub thing to develop the film in. So it's best to do it at a school like marden which has everything there. Plus their film and photo paper is cheaper there if you're a student. You can also get expired film or paper, which goes even cheaper cos it's ... well, expired!
I have all the equipment for developing at home (apart from chemicals) but I don't have a light proof room
They only do b&w traditional photography at marden though - no colour
