The composition itself is what's made the piece so successful. The burger phone wire slips out of focus and disappears, giving the foreground its vivid sharpness and drawing the eye organically towards the boldly coloured objects. The flecs of yellow and blue, while incidental, offer more of the retro childhood and 80s 'junk food' atmosphere that keeps the piece purposeful and themed. There's something honest about this image nonetheless. It's by no means a parody of itself but instead a kind of small visual celebration, presenting the objects as beautiful relics of a former time. The artist's use of negative space is bold and it works in favour of the image as a whole. The foreground appears almost touchable. An offering to the viewer for their enjoyment and consideration.
Whilst there's nothing surprising or particularly fresh about the use of retro playthings in art and popular culture, there should be an appreciation for an image such as this which appoaches the objects objectively and allows its audience to attribute their own meanings and overall value to them.
